Cycle to the Sun Maui Event

Cycle to the Sun –  Solo or Relay Race, the longest & steepest paved road on the planet from Paia Town to Haleakala Crater 36 miles – 10,023 ft. summit

Since the 1980s, the steep and curvy 10,000-foot elevation climb has been ranked as one of the most challenging bike races in the world.

Starting from Paia town at 6:30 a.m. and riding up to Haleakala National Park’s Pu’u Ula’ula visitor center overlook, cyclists from around the world come to conquer the mountain solo or via a three-person relay.

2020 Event Details
The 2020 Cycle To The Sun will take place on Saturday, August 22nd.

This year’s race will be either the full distance to the summit (36 miles, 10,000 feet elevation) or a three person relay. The relay changeover points will be at about 2,700 feet and 6,500 feet.

Holding the race on Saturday instead of Sunday allows more riders to stay at the event party without having to leave for Sunday evening flights home.
